Introducing SLOW Colour

The two words that encapsulate my work.

Born out of my experiments with natural dye, I realised SLOW Colour sums up all of the mediums and processes I work with; from my painted papers and collage, to my felting and stitching…everything takes time and everything is colourful. â€‹â€‹

Natural Dye

SLOW Insta DYE.png

Machine and hand-stitched. Dyed in homemade, natural dye vats using kitchen waste, foraged and home-grown ingredients.

All my fabrics are scoured (to remove oils from the weaving process) and mordanted (to hold colour.)

I dye textiles in small batches at home on my kitchen hob for up to 2 days, to reach colours that are only achievable with time and patience.

Some of my pieces I sew first and then dye, others I make from existing fabrics I’ve already brewed. This way, each one is exclusive.

Natural dye is a living colour that changes over time.

Pieces will change with age, wear and any washing.

This is all part of the charm of natural dye.

Some colours even oxidise after time out of the vat, which can happen days and sometimes weeks after I’ve brewed them.
